About Ohana
Today, it is easier than ever to start a brand - yet increasingly difficult to scale it. The low barriers of entry and highly fragmented demand have caused the direct-to-consumer space to boom - but with more and more brands fighting to acquire the same customers individually, the price of social media ads has blown up making the customer acquisition math increasingly challenging. This has a massive impact on the chances at success of 1,000s of ambitious purpose-driven brands.

The direct-to-consumer space is ready to rebundle to leverage the scale, scope and assets of one another and drive down the costs of accessing new quality customers, without losing its individuality and direct relationship with the customer. We believe this will be driven by community-led growth and collective reciprocity.

  • About the role
We're looking for a talented and entrepreneurial CTO and Co founder who is engaged with our mission and will take ownership of our product development journey - from prototyping through to deployment and maintenance.

We don’t have huge significant repositories of existing code to maintain or migrate so you’ll get to focus on building functionality. We have an exciting product roadmap to develop and deploy, but it’s not fixed in stone and something that you can contribute to. At Ohana, you’ll get to have real responsibility for how our product and tech stack evolves and our company evolves.

As we are an early-stage startup, there is room for you to have a massive impact on the future of Ohana and a large amount of autonomy to grow and shape your role as the business scales.

As the CTO & co-founder of this business you will :

    • Working with the Founder & CEO (David) in defining the functionality and iterating on product features across web and responsive platforms
    • Lead product development - from prototyping to deployment and maintenance
    • Bring designs to life and add value throughout the process
    • Deliver outstanding user experiences through intuitive interfaces
    • Write secure and highly readable code
    • Be proactive to overcome challenges, solve bugs and hit shipping deadlines
    • Ensuring consistent best practices, processes, and procedures for software development, quality assurance and maintenance

Requirements for the role :

    • You may have worked in a fast-growing startup before but what is important is you have the drive to always be in solution finding mode in a highly ambiguous environment
    • Experience developing products at early stage startups (demonstrable with a portfolio)
    • Combined experience leading backend infrastructure, customer facing interfaces, and interactive applications
    • A plus: experience in building state-of-the-art tech teams from the ground up. That is: strong ability to attract first-class talent and build a high-performing technical organization
    • Previous experience with cloud services and deployment
    • Experience of media solutions and affiliate marketing a bonus
    • Data literate, you understand the importance of tracking customer usage and engagement, and you have built/managed applications that require it in the past
    • Experience working cross-functionally, with teams that do not always have deep technical expertise
    • Preferred tech stack: ReactJS for the front-end and Node.js or Python(Django/Flask) for the back-end
    • You could be at an early stage in your career looking to test your skills or a seasoned CTO who has a passion to build a business from the foundations up

    • Comfort with uncertainty: you are comfortable with ambiguity, are able to make decisions in the face of limited information and easily adapt to continuously shifting priorities
    • Analytical thinking: you are able to break complex problems into bite-sized actions and act deliberately on them: you try something out, see if it works, and then try again
    • Perspective: building something together for the future is what this is all about; having courage and resilience is essential
